Bio Ride Bike @ Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Jeff Kennedy Associates - Visitors ride on three modified networked together. All riders follow the same course, which is displayed on the screen. While riding, the handlebars detect the rider, take their heart rate and display it on the screen. Each rider is given a target heart rate depending on their age, weight, and other factors gathered up by their Peak Pass card. The first to hit their target heart rate wins the race. Technology: Modified software provided by RA Sports, small PC, USB interface, Polar Sensor
Wind Chill @ Denver Museum of Nature and Science - Jeff Kennedy Associates - The visitor places their hand into the 35 degree sealed windchill box, a fan blows air onto one side of their hand. Infrared temperature sensors measure the temperature on both sides of the visitors hand and the readout is displayed on the screen. Usually a visitor will have a 10 degree difference between the front and back of their hand. Technology: Small PC, small freezer, A/D converter, infrared temperature sensors, fan, relays, and industrial PLC unit programmed with ladder logic.
Sign In Stations @ Denver Museum of Nature and Science - Jeff Kennedy Associates - Each visitor gets a Peak Pass card. The Peak Pass records personal information that visitors may access online along with additional activities. When visitors get their Peak Passes, they select a virtual learning companion - or expedition buddy - to join them on their journey through Expedition Health. Technology: Small PC, thermo printer, fabricated paper slider, modified barcode scanner
Heart Rate @ Denver Museum of Nature and Science - Jeff Kennedy Associates - After inserting a Peak Pass at one of two stations, the visitor grabs these gold plated handles at this exhibit with both hands. The visitor's heart rate displays onscreen both as an EKG and in beats per minute, in sync with a scientific animation of a beating heart. Technology: fabricated gold handles, A/D converter, modified EKG hardware system
