School Desk for the Disabled

Project Date: 2015, Junior Year

Working side by side with the special needs students in the Milwaukee Public school system, this junior year project allowed me to understand how design can impact everyday lives. This desk was designed for a student with cerebral palsy who could not work independently because the work spaces did not accommodate for his custom wheelchair. The teachers needed to assist the student by holding their readings/worksheet close to their face, and because of this the student lacked independence. The Axis Desk gave that back to him. Through a top down design process I failed multiple times before achieving this solution. The Design can be adjusted in multiple ways for the student to access their work space easily and independently work in comfort.
