As the Color & Material designer, I looked for inspiration in the environment of our consumer profile. Los Angeles nightlife, street art, skyline, and proximity to the beach inspired my color choices, as shown in the images. Some of my exploratory color ups are also shown.
With three color ways, this one was specifically designed for the casual athlete/ commuter. Mesh vamp improves breathability, suede upper provides luxe lifestyle aesthetic. A Poron footbed provides maximum comfort for walking during commute. Rendered by Juan Colin
"Money" colorway. All suede design with beige and brown color blocking makes this a great lifestyle shoe for work.
"Mind" colorway. Athletic mesh vamp with bright color blocking makes the consumer stand out on campus and turn heads walking to class.
"Mood" colorway. Deep turquoise and salmon tones express the creative and playful side of the wearer as he explores the Arts District in LA on the weekend.

ASICS 180 Motivation - Pensole Footwear Design Academy

Pensole Footwear Design Academy. Placed 2nd place in Footlocker Fueling the Future of Footwear competition.
Brief: Redesign the Asics GEL-Lyte 180 in three weeks to better appeal to the Footlocker and Asics consumer without making pattern changes to the shoe.
Concept:
• 180 Motivation: Money, Mind, Mood
• The sum of all three angles in a triangle is 180.
• A shoe for work, school, and adventures of Shawn, our fully developed consumer profile designed to match both Asics and Footlocker market research.
• Reverse color block on L and R shoes echoes 180 half circle theme.
• Microfiber suede, textured P.U. skins give the shoe a lifestyle everyday luxe feel, mesh provides breathability.
