Sand is a best selling product that is comprised of 98% sand and 2% polymer. The polymer allows the sand to retain its shape and feels like a slow moving liquid when not compacted.
Originally targeted to children, this product was popular with adults as well. There was an opportunity to design an upscale box that adults could leave at the office to store and play with sand.
The sandbox is made from solid walnut and is finished with a light polish. The top of the sandbox swivels open around a metal hinge on the top. Throughout the design process, it was important that I design the sandbox to look upscale when the lid was closed. The use of natural materials really compliments the organic design of the product.
The sandbox also comes with a shaping tool that is carved from a solid piece of walnut wood. The tool is ergonomic, and fun to use.
