Fuel For Kenya
As part of a campaign to encourage the use of renewable fuel sources in Nairobi, Kenya, Middlesex University Product Design ran a project with its students to find promotional methods to be showcased at an 'Un-conference' (an informal conference which involves participation in activities and demonstrations).
We were tasked with promoting Briquettes as a fuel for cooking. We created prototypes for a portable Briquette powered grill. The grill is designed to be constructed from scrap materials which would be available in abundance. There are many skilled artisans in Nairobi who could be contracted to make such Grill kiosks and in turn fuel the local economy.
