With few drawings of the Turtle Submarine to share, I created an oil painting of what the submarine might have looked like in the water based on some engineer drawings during the American Revolution. The painting was photographed and used as the cover.
Photoshopped composite image created for the cover.
Vector drawing created for a very simple graphic cover to draw people to the magazine while it is on newsstands. The white would have stood out amongst other periodicals.
Mixed media front cover image using charcoal and digital painting together.

Patriots of the American Revolution - Magazine Covers

When I was the lead designer to the Patriots of the American Revolution magazine (2009-2012), there were some challenges for the cover images. With no photographs available during the American Revolution, I either had paintings to work with, small pictures to Photoshop together into a composite image, or I had to create the illustration.
