Joey Zeledón is an award-winning designer with expertise in product design, experience design, and design strategy. An affable leader with a passion for all things healthy, Joey is currently a Principal at Steelcase where he creates meaningful new experiences for people by innovating healthcare spaces. Previously, while a Senior Designer at Smart Design, he led and contributed to a variety of design-driven projects for Fortune 500 companies, start-ups and everything in between. He also co-founded the Smart Food lab, which explores the intersection of food, design and healthy behaviors. With these experiences and his prior work in the product design group at Continuum and as lead designer for the Clarks Originals and Banana Republic shoe lines at Clarks Americas, Joey has become a versatile designer, creating everything from footwear and consumer electronics to consumer packaged goods, consumer products, medical devices, housewares, food, and services. He has collaborated with American Express, Banana Republic, Bayer Healthcare, Chobani, Clarks Originals, Drinkfinity, Ford, Gatorade, Google, Hot Tools, National WIC Association, New Balance, OXO International, PepsiCo, Revlon, Sargento, Steelcase, Targus, Under Armour, and Unilever. Joey has won numerous design awards, including IDEA, iF, Spark, Core77, GOOD DESIGN, and I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review. And, his design work has been published in The Boston Globe, Fast Company, TIME Magazine, New York Times, GQ, Wired, Metropolis, Adage, Taschen, Core77, and Real Simple. Joey holds a BFA in Industrial Design with a concentration in Sociology from Rochester Institute of Technology, where he built a strong foundation for his career.
Smart Food Lab
At Steelcase, Joey is the design Principal for the Health division where he creates meaningful healthcare experiences for patients, care partners, clinicians and facility management by leveraging physical, digital and spatial design components. To do this, he closely collaborates with healthcare professionals, furniture designers, interaction designers, interior designers, architects, engineers and researchers.
His primary role was to create new and meaningful experiences for people through product innovation. He led his teams and clients by showing the positive impact that design with meaning can create for people and consequently grow business.
He was the co-founder and leader of Smart Design's Food Lab, an internal initiative that explores the intersection of food, design and the 5 senses. Food Lab's mission is to design the experiences around food to be as delicious (and meaningful) as the food itself.
Joey also managed Smart Design's ID Internship Program.
