Assistant Watch Designer Fossil — Dallas, TX

About

I am a graduate of the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Mi. (2008)

I am currently a watch designer at Fossil in Dallas Texas. It is my responsibility to design both mens and ladies watches and manage their development from the smallest idea to the final product. This typically involves trend research and the creation of particular stories based on these trends. once a solid story has been created sketching begins. At the beginning of each season I develop new watch concepts as well as refreshing current platforms with the updated stories. I then proceed to sampling and create whatever documents are necessary to communicate to our team and factories in Hong Kong, this may be as simple as a colorway or as complex as a mechanical drawing or a 3D model. It is then my job to review and approve the technical drawings I receive from the factories so they can proceed to sampling. After all of the samples are approved the line will be presented to our stores and wholesale teams and the final assortment will be chosen.

Since joining the Fossil team I have been selected to participate in the first ever design exchange where I visited our Hong Kong office and spent a week meeting my teammates and taking meetings with various factories to assure that our current designs were being executed correctly. The following year I was then selected to join in our Factory Week. During this trip we spent our time in Hong Kong as well as China, taking tours of the research and production areas of various factories. This truly expanded my knowledge of the manufacturing process.

My goals are to continue to broaden my skill set over a wide range of design disciplines, progressing each day. Long term goals are to get my company CreativeDNA up and functioning. A company that will base most of its design around Eco-friendly products that not only are manufactured and designed to be more sustainable but in many ways actively give back and thus go beyond having a small carbon footprint.
Specialties

I have to say my strongest attribute is my personality coupled with my creative thought. I spend each day constantly thinking, evolving and challenging myself and current designs to be better. I have an acute eye for my surroundings. I use my experiences to spark my creativity. Artistically, I have great hand sketching skills as well as physical model making skills that translate directly to my computer skills, in programs like Solidworks, Alias, Rhino and Keyshot.
