what is design?
design is - pages 1 & 2
order - (left) picture frame coasters that display photos even when being stored. **photos taken by me (right) a study of the relationship between 2d squares and circles in 3d space
simplicity - (left and right) further studies about the relationships between 2 basic shapes (bottom right)- stool concept derived from the geometry of the juxtaposition of circles within squares coming together to create a cube with circular faces
we must - (left) Drawing board (side view), designed to be lightweight for mobility and also to hang over the edge of the workspace surface in order to create an ideal height and angle for myself while seated. This relationship is created by the large extruded triangle form which is repeated to prevent the board from sliding back when in use. (right) plastic begins to resemble ceramic as it was vacuum formed around croquet balls, shaped into delicate cups to be held in the palm of the hand
play - (left) 2D sliding wooden toy creates rectangles of various dimensions (3D version creates rectangular prisms) (right) ZIG, an urban bench made of steel from a tesselating pattern that ideally would leave minimal to no material waste. Additionally the simple design of the bench allows it to be made in various lengths and also to form straight or curved lines of seating and bike racking. Exhibited at the International Furniture Fair in Milan, Italy-April 2008.
