Giraffe Pictogram - I concentrated on simplifying the head and face of a giraffe. The challenge came in keeping the design simple, while making it undeniably recognizable as a giraffe.
Abstract Pictogram of a Giraffe - The challenge for this design was to take the form of a giraffe and abstract it. I used lines in this design to create the form of a giraffe, emphasizing it's long neck as the recognizable feature.
Typographic Solution - For this part, I had to represent a giraffe using type. I chose Century Gothic as the font, because it embodies the thin, willowy playfulness of the giraffe. I also chose to italicize and enlarge the first 'f' to create the form of the giraffe's neck.
Giraffe Type and Image - Finally, I had to combine both type and image to represent a giraffe. For the image I chose the neck, because that's the most recognizable part of any giraffe. The neck along with the spots leaves no doubt about what animal I'm trying to portray. Using Century Gothic and all caps, I ran the type vertical up the length of the neck to emphasize the height of the giraffe.
