Interaction designer / director — Montreal, PQ
Currently working at momentfactory as interaction designer & director. www.momentfactory.com
Holding a Master's degree in Interactive Design, obtained in Milan, Italy, Matei enjoys exploring the fertile playground of avant-garde projects involving the relation of a user to his/her immediate context, at various scales and across a diversity of media (people, object, media & spaces). Imbued with Milan's legendary tradition of design and architecture, and lead by world-class designers and architects, Matei have contributed to develop its unconventional way of designing and reflecting on society with a different eye. Various projects developed within his master degree have been exhibited in Italy in prestigious exhibition such as Venice Architecture Biennale.
Matei has lead the project development department at Moment Factory from 2005-2009, identifying project opportunities and elaborating strategies tailored to client’s objectives and needs. He also acts as a senior experiential and interactive designer, where he participates in project conception and integration. Specialized in projects involving interaction, Matei generally leads such projects through to delivery. One of Matei's projects, Moment Factory's recent premiere of North America's first permanent interactive giant exterior LED wall, won the Grand Prize in Montreal's 2008 'Creativity Awards' in the Urban Integration category and found itself on the front cover of the awards' journal. Initially a temporary pilot project, the wild public popularity of La Vitrine led to it being rendered permanent. The judges' summarised the project as being 'quintessentially Montreal', expressing the playfully collective identity of the city.
