Exposed copper wires in the middle of each ear are wired to each respective eye, and cause that eye to flicker when the wires make and break contact as a result of the wearer's movements. Re-bending the wires allows users to modify how the eyes respond to their movements.
Switches on the back control the interior cooling fan, power to the eyes, and the stereo / mono eye flickering setting. (In mono mode, when either ear makes contact the eyes light.) Batteries store behind the flat metal cover.
The ears on the helmet are also removable for storage.

Livemau5

Why not....

This was a commissioned replica of the Deadmau5 helmet.
The helmet is made of fiberglass. It's painted in House of Kolor candy blue and metal flake.
