3D printing of prototype - I used Shapeways' service to make a prototype so I could check the design's fit and feel in the hand, and whether its angles are set properly. I will be able to modify the design slightly based on these tests.

The Allspork - I decided to design the ultimate utensil, and remembering the Transformers movie, I named it "The Allspork". It is inspired by the minimalist titanium backpacking gear that I love, but I wanted to make something that could be used easily for all eating and serving, even scooping hard ice-cream.

The Allspork - Stress Test - Initial - I reinforced it using a contour similar to Pearl-Izumi's Ti Beam cycling shoes. I tested it using the FEA of CosmosWorks, and then modified it to prevent yielding at the most susceptible point. It weighs 33 grams. I feel that this could be manufactured easily enough, although definitely more so if it were made in stainless steel.

The Allspork - Initial Design Sketches - One of the key design elements was that it should be able to reach into the corners of a container to scrape out food, such as yogurt. I configured the tines accordingly, while still making them good for stabbing food. I also wanted it to be able to hold a lot of liquid when ladling soup. I also gave it a good enough edge for cutting through softer meats like chicken. I added a raised embellishment for a nice tactile nature, and to add visual distinctiveness.

3D printing of prototype - I used Shapeways' service to make a prototype so I could check the design's fit and feel in the hand, and whether its angles are set properly. I will be able to modify the design slightly based on these tests.
