St. Joseph's Margaret and Charles Juravinski Centre for Integrated Health

An 850,000sf Research Healthcare Centre with the capacity for 305 beds, and comprises community amenities. Patty led the stakeholder groups, and design for the inpatient areas, including inpatient bedrooms, seclusion rooms, Nurse Care Stations, administrative offices and developed a complete mockup. Inpatient bedrooms give access to views to nature and the escarpment, while the accessible and anti-ligature design of the inpatient areas lend a non-institutional feel promoting a holistic environment where mind and body heal. A custom milled desk and window seat connect patients to their community. The orientation and position of the building takes advantage of the naturally occurring heat from the sun and brings the hospital closer to the street, thereby facilitating the integration of the hospital campus with its community, lessening the stigma around mental illness and addiction. Materials and finishes concept for the facility took inspiration from colours found on the escarpment.
