A uniquely hip and trendy cafe markets local entertainment and ingredients with a building rich in historical impact.
Fettofest 2007! - Going way against the request of the client, this pull-out poster eventually turned enough heads to find its way into print. Halftone effects make an interesting pattern closeup and show pictoral representations from afar.
A&M Jewelry - Seeking a simple approach, this client wanted to reach out to couples searching for wedding rings. The ad contains no coupons, to assert itself as a premier jeweler with excellent craftsmanship and customer service.
Alter Ego - A trendy clothing boutique that attracts young people also showcases local art & jewelry. Young models, with sexy poses, show a lot of skin for a sexual overtone. Vertical pink bars validate the androgynous nature of both males and females.
Bowling! Bowling! - Glow bowling creates an illuminated blue and pink atmosphere that I duplicated in my choice of color. Exciting fonts and layout were chosen to attract target audiences.
Cafe Milan - A unique logo inspired the layout for this ad. Carrying the cleanliness of the brand, the white background and see through coupons are soft. Whimsical curves and circles make the place seem fun and friendly.
Colleen & Mary's - A localized establishment with an upscale clientele, this ad is as simple as it is sophisticated. See through coupon numbers are sheer, just like the model's top.
Dermatology Institute - A simple layout that emphasizes strong imagery. Breathtaking skin was a necessity for the headline and for the model. Blue makes for a carefree attitude.
Dream Dinners - Possibly one of the most interesting business concepts, make-and-take meal companies have trouble marketing themselves. To illustrate simplicity, I chose bold numbers with short, scripted words to capture the viewer's attention. Further instruction for the customer is elaborated in the small copy that accompanies the three steps. A low price point and great coupon offer seal the deal. Fresh color, swirls, and angled numbers lend to the carefree attitude that such establishments promote.
Enchanted Forest Wine - All capital letters promise the viewer that this purveyor has great prominence in the area. A voluptuous, long stemmed wine glass further illustrates the astute business.
43 South - A fine restaurant attached to a hip lounge, the restaurant portion is very grid like and upscale. The lounge opposes the page by utilizing an angle, with a modern logo and type treatments.
Golden China - If you claim that you have the best Chinese cuisine, you need to have the best ad layout. Based on the colors of the food image, I utilized dark black and grey highlights with the most important information in yellow. Artistic brush strokes emphasize the decorative plating and creative thinking that is put into their cuisine.
Grandstaff Roofing - A speculative advertisement, I tried to show the precise, complicated work that this client is capable of producing. A closeup of the shingle at the bottom of the ad is polarized from where the viewer thinks it should be located.
Guardado's - A very simple, successful layout defies tradition by utilizing large coupons and minimal body copy. A large, impressive logo defines the unique cuisine served at the establishment.
Hullar's Restaurant - Burger and steak restaurants are commonplace, so their advertising shouldn't be. Dramatic, in-your-face steak imagery is assertive, and so is the headline. Faded background logo increases subliminal brand association.
Limestone Cafe - A signature white linen, fine dining, American cuisine restaurant can be found in many towns across the U.S. This ad uses negative space to emphasize the few parts that it contains. The gift certificate is implied to be cut out of the ad, as to not insult the viewer with cut lines. A favorite.
Mazary Hair Studio - What a perfect image for an ad layout. The white background emphasizes hair style and skin quality. The angles created by her pose are welcoming to the viewer and are dynamic for layout construction. A tattoo of the client's website begs to be visited while the coupon is nudged off the page alignment for added attention. One of my favorites.
North Star Grill - A newly opened, locally operated, bar & grill needed a concise layout to send a message. This ad has a tight layout with an exactness to its flow. The very large plate is secondary to the capturing headline and crisp images which sit atop a muted bar background.
Javan Restaurant - A full fledged two page spread branding and layout. Waves are consistent with the salad image and the plate on t he second page. The green box of the logo makes the same jump to the opposite page. A blurred background puts emphasis on the foreground and table setting.
Salon Cache - Another layout that is speculative and against the client's requests. Blue eyes match the type treatment, and a floral pattern finishes the piece.
Yutaka Sushi - The image of food asserts itself in this layout because it poses at quite an angle, where the rest of the ad represents grid like rigidity. The client owns quite a unique establishment, where the Japanese cuisine is traditional and where the authentic tatami room is even more traditional.
This two page spread relies on the grayscale color scheme being interrupted by a large gold pendant and the coupon offers. They both stand out on an otherwise colorless canvas. The "Y" created by the necklace replicates the shape of the Y in the headline. It also splits the page to create a greater dynamic.
Crow Hill Hardwoods - Warming and elegant, this image is angled well to lead the viewer onto the coupon. It is minimalist to further emphasize the finish quality of the floor. The headline makes the viewer appreciate nature in a full circle, from wood being used for the floorboards to the wood burning in the fireplace.
The Greene Turtle - BOOM! An in-your-face layout with extreme closeups and large, poignant headline (and coupon). Simplicity does it all for this well established bar and grill. This ad performed with excellent results.
