Iris Lamp

This project was my final year major project, it was based on the concept of designer maker, where I would be designing and creating a product that could be produce in a small batch or as a one off. The iris lamp is the outcome, aimed at creating a commercial product from a single sheet of material with little or no off cut waste. Each repeating segment is designed to replicate the organic aesthetics of the iris plant and to interlace with one another when being cut from a single sheet of material. The design is held together by the use of brass book screws, these allow for the design to be constructed by the customer without the use of tools. This also gives me the chance to cut back on manufacturing cost and make the design easy to disassemble for recycling.

The Iris Light has been exhibited at: New Designers(London), Summer Showcase 2010 Candid Arts (London) and Edinburgh Napier University Degree Show.
