The Problem with Today's Window Locks - Milgard wanted opening and closing the window to be an intuitive process. Most window locks require two operations to unlock and open a window: first, unlock the window (by pinching or twisting the locking mechanism), then shift your grip and lift the window itself. We were asked to find a better, simpler solution
Improved Security - 90% of all residential break-ins occur through window that are inadvertently left unlocked. Current hardware gives no indication as to whether a window is locked or not. A key feature of the Milgard lock is that the actuation lever is always up when the window is unlocked - the lever remains down only when the window is locked. This allows the homeowner to scan the house quickly and feel confident about home security.
Streamilned. Intuitive. - The action of the lock is in the direction of travel of the window - which allows the user to unlock and open the window with one single motion. The profile extrusions were completely redesigned to accommodate the lock mechanics within the window sash to achieve an integrated, low-profile appearance. Designing the lock and window in parallel helped ensure the lock handle and bezel are well-integrated centerpieces of the window
