Jaina Island Owl Statuette (ceramic) - Forgery serves a purpose when truly learning how those who came before us went through the process of creating art. In this piece sculpting technique was borrowed from the Jaina Island culture.
Oregon Charm Bracelet (sterling sliver) - As a medium silver gave luminosity and an otherworldly liquid feel to the different pictograms featured on each charm. Etchings of a tree, bee, monolithic shoreline, snail, lightning, anemone flower and salmon are all significant descriptors of a spellbinding locale.
Crab on its Back: Copy of Van Gogh's 1889 Work (oil on cresent board) - The hand-done copying of this masterwork trains a student in the art of painting. Van Gogh's vibrant color schemes and vigorous, exuberant and animated brush strokes became the focus of my study in technique.
Untitled (oil on canvas) - Art Nouveau being one of my most beloved periods of art, I wanted to do a painting, w/ writhing, intertwined elements, curvilinear in form and with a very organic and natural color palette and feel.
Lily Pad Pond (watercolor on cold press paper) - Painting is still my most challenging medium. Watercolor for me is most malleable and free-form. Shapes existing in nature w/ their organic and haphazardness are most appealing.
Ruby-Throated Hummingbird Specimen (polymer clay, glass seed beads, brass wire) - In a world of accepted mass extinctions of species of every manner, imagine if something jewel-like we take for granted were to disappear. The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is just such a species. This specimen of polymer clay, brass wire armature and glass beads is placed in a museum specimen box w/ cotton. A bio on the species explains its long inhabitation of our continent and its eventual extinguishment. Environmental commentary with a haunting appeal.
Crane Pin (etched copper) - Made of copper, this small etched piece was a study in a metalsmith's aptitude with a jewelry saw. Fine detail on the surface and outer silhouette give this pin a precious quality. The back pin mechanism is a spiral fashioned of heavy gauge wire.
Stylized Humpback Whale (ceramic glazed) - Fusing the realism of natural animal forms and stylized elements of the Maori culture of New Zealand brought this sculpture into being.
Untitled (metallic painted ceramic) - Art can be a study in heartbreak, patience and regeneration. This piece blew up in the kiln and was reassembled piece by piece. There are those visions you can't let go of.
Self Portrait (white charcoal pencil) - Realism portrayed through rendering the dimension of light playing over planes and detailed elements.
Turkish Bead Art Nouveau Necklace (glass seed beads & sterling silver) - In this incredibly intricate piece I referenced back to the baubles that accompanied the Flappers of the early 1920's.
