A Universal Design approach to MARTA (Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) ticket machine. The project focuses on 2 main areas; the design of the ticket booth itself (e.g. height, reach distance, wheelchair accessibility, etc) and physical interfaces.
Identifying Universal Design issues/barriers, following the 7 UD principles.
New design's achievements: Automatic auditory instruction, Simple and intuitive machine maneuvering, Logical interface layout and hierarchy (selection menu >> payment >> retrieve ticket), Multi-modal feedback (Braille, auditory, blinking light), Color-coded, well-organized buttons grouping, Large fonts and high contrast for better readability.
