Rooster Chair

Rooster chair were the result of an ethnographic research trip to Sarawak inspired by the laidback lifestyles and the unique weaving pattern of the Sarawak people. The dimension of the chair was made to give the user more space to find the most comfortable position by them. The position adopted by the user would directly reflect the way how Sarawak people sit. In order to portray the weaving pattern uniquely to Sarawak, I used an unconventional way of shadow play to make the weaving pattern. This method of using different medium to portray the weaving was intrigued by the change of choice in material for basketry. Currently the Sarawakian uses urban material like plastic to weave their basket, they changed their choices from rattan to plastic to integrate themselves into the urban society. The double pun of the name rooster was originated from the dutch meaning grill and the chair portray a rustic farm like feeling of rooster.
