Bumblebee Nest

This project aims to raise awareness and provide insight into the nesting of bumblebees. Bumblebees are dying out in the UK, causing a financial and environmental strain on our ecosystem. The design addresses this issue by providing a talking point. The window-mounted nest encourages people to observe the secret life of the bees. The nest is designed for optimal use by bumblebees, considering their needs as a user and creating more available spaces for habitation. The aesthetics follow the theme of protection; the design is inspired by a pregnant form that protects the vulnerable and growing activity within.

A stigma and scare factor is attached to bumblebees due to their similarity to the honeybee and the wasp, both of whom will sting freely.
The bumblebee is a particularly docile bee and will not sting unless the nest is being disturbed and the queen is under threat

Many people are aware of the decline of the honeybee. However few people realise just how important bumblebees are.
