I'm a freelance eyewear designer based in Scotland, with experience of working for international companies on licensed brands
In 2000, while studying for a degree in Jewellery & Metalwork at art college, I won Dollond & Aitchison's Student Spex competition, designing a pair of optical frames to celebrate their 250th anniversary. The frames went on sale throughout the UK and soon sold out.
Since then I have been working as a freelance eyewear designer for a variety of companies across Europe, North America, Asia and Australasia.
In 2002 I began working with the Norwegian company WeNeverSleep on a freelance basis, and in 2006 became their full-time designer (until July 2008). During that time I was responsible for designing their Bruuns Bazaar optical and sunglasses collections. I also designed a sunglasses collection for H&M's new COS stores, and sunglasses collections for the Norwegian skier Kari Traa. After finishing work on the 2009 collections for Bruuns Bazaar, H&M / COS and some other Swedish brands, I started working freelance again in July 2008.
I have extensive experience of working on licensed brands, particularly in the Scandinavian market, and on a wide range of other eyewear products from niche to mass-market, to sports and safety eyewear.
My strengths lie in producing commercial but cool shapes, incorporated into interesting but sellable concepts with attention to detailling.
