For our final assignment in our Metals II class, we were tasked to create a mechanical assembly that fit together. It was a test of machining precision and ingenuity. My focus was to create movement through mechanical connections – simple connections that are foundational to mechanical technology we take for granted.

Movement of the diaphragm is created when the two plates are turned against each other. Each blade is pinned to one pivot point and the other side glides along a arcing slot.
