magppie - During my summer internship at BUiLT Design, I designed and presented a series of concepts for a competition hosted by Magppie. The competition focus was to design giftable and collectible products that could be added to Magppie’s existing line with potential for various graphical applications.

sushi set - This set of chopsticks and accompanying dish were designed to be a personal set, with which each person could reflect their individual style. When not being used, the set could be decoratively hung on the wall for storage.
I envisioned the set to be ceramic, stainless steel, or a hardwood such as walnut. The graphics could be applied in many ways, however, acid or laser etch would provide a versatile and clean aesthetic.

spicy character - My focus with this spice set, was to give each spice an individual personality to accompany its flavor. A human-like form of the canister in correlation with different graphics applied would make cooking more fun. Choosing a spice would be more like choosing a character to fit a role in each dish.
The canisters would be stainless steel or glass, to which various graphics could be applied with pad printing or acid etching.

hanging spices - This spice set also aims to make the act of cooking more fun by changing the dynamic of spice storage. Instead of reaching for a conventional shelf or a drawer of spices, the user picks from a set of hanging spices like they would pick out a shirt from their closet. The hanging canisters will dangle, moving around and may be hung from a wall or propped up on a counter.

nesting cups - Inspired by the Russian Matryoshka doll, each cup nests inside the next in a fun and space efficient manner. With at least three different sized pairs, there are many different applications ranging from measuring cups to cocktail or espresso shots.
The conceptual graphic treatment was to have the layers of cups represent layers of clothing. Each set of cups would be a genre of person with their own style clothes, which could be mixed and matched.

nesting tea cups - This is a slight variation of the nesting matryoshka cups. The addition of a handle would be nice for applications such as tea or espresso, in which a temperature is an issue. Storage of these cups would be much more space-efficient than conventional tea cups. The handles could also be used as pouring spouts, great for cream or syrup.

cup + saucer set - These cups stack together with a pair of saucers, which may also be used as lids to keep the beverage warm and prevent spilling. A pair of stirring spoons can fit within the cups when stored.
The cups are intended to be dual-layered stainless steel, and vacuum sealed for optimal insulation - perfect for espresso or tea.

packaging - Packaging concepts for the espresso cup set were presented to Magppie. The package gives a very important first impression of not only the product, but Magppie’s identity, as a modern high quality brand.
