Within the bike-friendly city of San Francisco, having to run errands by-foot or by-car is very unfortunate. I realized this after a short while at Smart Design, and I took it upon myself to build a communal office bike. Since it's completion, this bike is used on daily-basis to pick-up everything from sandwiches to sand-paper.

After stripping the frame of old components and paint, I took it to a local powder-coater and picked out a good orange. Below is the freshly-coated frame with installed fork, headset, and bottom bracket.

A custom bike is not complete without a custom headbadge. I cut the shape out of of sheet aluminum using a drill press and a band-saw(very sketchy). I finished the details with a file and formed the head-tube curve with a simple jig.

With a color scheme that conveniently matches both Smart Design and the SF Giants, it is a welcome sight on the streets and in the office. The sugino chainring with gold chain make it courier-approved, while the functional rear-baskets add a utilitarian touch. The custom headbadge and ergo-handlebar grips make this a true smart-bike, because nothing says Smart Design like a pair OXO good-grips.
