I'm an industrial/vehicle designer currently working as a staff member of the JCB industrial design team.
Apart from the day-to-day 'monotony' that is designing the interior and exterior design of some of the most awesome and challenging shapes, sizes and engineering constraints that are our machines, both concept and full production. Other duties have included (but definitely not been limited to) ergonomics, vector iconography, trend analysis, colour and trim, photo manipulation (or photobodging), lots of mood boarding and general visualisation of whatever anyone , anywhere in the company asks for.
Working in a real go-to department, that is constantly in demand, has definitely tested my core skill flexibly, which is highly valued due to the small size of the team and often unusual requests. All my skills have been used, challenged, improved and i have often been forced to learn new ones at short notice.
The small team has meant being thrown in the deep end of industrial designing, managing several projects of my own from day 1, expected to get on and do the job, constantly interacting with teams of engineers, suppliers, marketing & sales, test site developers & machine specialists, not to mention high-level interaction with all levels of executive staff which I have been privileged to be involved in despite my relative inexperience in the job/company.
I pride myself on a hard working, very competitive, very honest, straight talking, to the point, happy to get my hands dirty attitude. I've found I have a particular fondness of asking 'why?' and have a deep down love for fixing things and have been forever taking things apart and learning how to fix/put them back together, be it cars, computers, gadgets, appliances, furniture...
I've started a small snap shot of what floats my boat here on Fancy:
