Scissor Gait is a form of gait abnormality primarily associated with cerebral palsy. It is presented by knees and thighs hitting, or sometimes even crossing in a scissor like movement. Because of this, Shrushti's one leg falls on the other and she falls.
Physiotherapy at Shartul School for Special Children, Mumbai
Walking with the aid of physiotherapy:
The physiotherapist holds her from behind and guides her by putting her own leg between Shrushti’s two legs to part them with every step that she takes
Without a walker, she takes support of objects around and walks sideways, falling a lot of times
To design a special walker for Shrushti which enables her to walk independently and corrects her scissor gait by making her walk naturally.
The partition separates Shrushti's legs when she walks. It can also be used as a seating device when she gets tired of walking.
The final concept product was validated. Shrushti walked for about 40 minutes with the new walker without any difficulty. Do check out the project video at http://vimeo.com/bhairavi/walker-for-scissor-gaits
