Kiddo

Kiddo

Full Size (highres_width x highres_height)
Kiddo is made out of non-toxic #5 polypropylene plastic and is durable as it is used in many food containers currently. Kiddo lets the child see into the box for a peak at what's for lunch, but still hides the contents of the sandwich pouch and side dish containers.

I researched lunch box systems and found inspiration in the Japanese Bento Box - an elaborately arranged way of serving food in single portion boxes. The emphasis on fun shapes, colors, and textures would be a great kid pleaser.

Kiddo is carried around with a neoprene carrying case. This keeps cold food cold and beverages cold too.

The side water bottle is made of extruded aluminum with a non-toxic liner. It also fits in with the fun anthropomorphic theme of the main lunchbox with its silicone over mold handle that resembles a hand print.

Kiddo is great for lunches of all kinds. It accommodates sandwiches, left overs, and has plenty of room for fruits and vegetables

Parents don't have a lot of time to fuss with lunch. The sandwich pouch makes it easy to pack any sandwich but doesn't generate as much waste as using traditional plastic baggies. The ice pack also keeps food cold for safety.

Kiddo is designed to go with kids to school for a healthy alternative to school lunch programs. It can hold a great lunch, and even snacks for later. It fits compactly together, so it wont take up too much space on a lunch table. It's also very distinct so that kids won't forget which one is theirs compared to others.

At the end of the day, Kiddo can be popped into the dish washer or hand washed. This cuts down drastically on food waste. In a bigger sense, using re-usable containers may also encourage parents to buy more whole foods instead of packaged snacks, like apple sauce jars instead of individual apple sauce packs.
