Close the Loop on Tyres. Re-Tyre is an innovative use of a hazardous waste product. Using minimal resources, energy and labour to transform used tyres into furniture. A tyre is transformed into a seat in about 2 minutes using a 4 simple custom steel clips. The seat can be used indoors or out doors. They can be finished with wax or covered to suit use and decor. As a single seat, Re-tyre is flexible and active, adapting to individual users anthropometrics. It is a cross over seat / stool and can be both depending on the users mood and posture. With the addition of a tie pin between individual seats Re-Tyre becomes stable bench seating with 2 or more tyres. It can then be shaped to suit the space to form a concave, convex curve, snake or full loop. Re-Tyre challenges our perception of the tyre. It draws the user into a new relationship with a recycled product, and invites us to rethink our attitude to waste. We can’t bury our problems for ever, but we can sit on them.
