Bicycle Frame Composition - Done in conjunction with the human powered vehicle team project, I investigated the material composition, grain structure and failure modes of several different types of bicycle frame materials to determine which material would be best to use in the construction of the Longfellow bicycle. We ultimately decided on using common 4130 steel for its overall versatility and ease of welding as our primary frame material.
