Thinking Inside the Box - ergonomics - Thinking Inside the Box is targeted specifically at young children in their most important stages of cognitive, motor & social development; the 3 to 5 year old demographic. At this age, a child’s problem-solving capabilities begin to emerge & they become increasingly inventive. They begin to interact socially & the framework for the communication and interaction skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives is created.
Thinking Inside the Box - materials - Thinking Inside the Box is 100% recycled & recyclable reinforced cardboard, covered with a layer of recycled white paper and held together with non-toxic, ecologically friendly glue, making it a simple, yet educationally effective toy. The inexpensive nature of the box, coupled with the smooth white surface that makes the product a blank canvas, gives children full freedom to decorate, mutilate or modify the box in any way they see fit, allowing endless possibilities for imaginative play.
Thinking Inside the Box - Intro - This purpose of this project, undertaken with Tara Whelan, was to design an educational toy for children. Thinking Inside the Box is a new take on a long established classic – a return to and a reinvention of the giant cardboard box that was always favoured over the expensive toy it housed. It is a salute to the forts, the racing cars, the kitchens and costumes the humble box has provided children for decades.
Thinking Inside the Box - skills - Playing with Thinking Inside the Box requires little or no prior instruction, allowing children to freely interact with the product, creating their own play scenarios and encouraging group participation and cooperation. This non-directive play is extremely important in the development of cognitive and problem-solving capabilities, as well as vital social skills.
Thinking Inside the Box - musical boxes - The Thinking Inside the Box package would include a large box, as well as a pamphlet of ideas and suggestions for play, projects and costumes entitled "Getting the Most from your Box"
Thinking Inside the Box - customisation - The Thinking Inside the Box package would include a large box, as well as a pamphlet of ideas and suggestions for play, projects and costumes entitled "Getting the Most from your Box"
