Driven by an interest in people and their relationship with the world around them. Concerned with our effect on the environment, particularly interested in using reclaimed materials. Excited about being faced with new challenges and pushing existing concepts to their limits.
'ONCE DISCARDED' range
For the main body of work the focus is on sustainability, believing strongly that the state of the planet is in the hands of designers. Using reclaimed timber and assembling with cable these pieces of furniture have been brought to life, the cable also adds a delightful spring action. There is no need to apply a finish, saving another source of pollution. Interested in keeping part of the woods previous use visible, telling a story.
Currently working on commissions, making chairs to fit clients backs, making each piece individual. Commissions can also make use of customer’s own un-used wood, saving cost. Some chairs can be used in two or more ways, sitting upright or reclining, high or low.
GENERAL
Inspirations have come from the aging of buildings, the layers of weathered materials telling a story. Fascinated by curved lines and slight imperfections in the natural world. Important for each piece of work to be individual, having their own character.
Using human instincts allows my creativity to flourish, spontaneously responding to materials. Technical problem solving also plays an important role in the creative process.
Interested in the physical connection people have with the world around them. A particular fascination with chairs, and how they are used. There is a sculptural feel to all of the pieces, allowing people the freedom to interpret the use of the objects instinctively.
