For me designing is a way to improve our enviroment, and a way to enjoy life. So, as a designer I feel it such an special activity involved in every thing all day long, then, the core message beyond classical meanings is to “enjoy designing”.
Every idea that comes to my mind I develop it in order to create some innovation, both aesthetic and functional, both technical and practical. My objects, the most of them furniture, try to push boundaries in a special way, refering my own enviroment, my country, my city.
I live in a middle town, with not many industries and special processes, so I look a huge chance in how I can seize this lack and propose such interesting objects. I inspire my work on Mies Van der Rohe’s “less is more” philosophy, the less I have around the more I can innovate.
But this is also why my designs take too long to me for being prototiped. If you check my website and blog, almost all my work is just renders. I have to say only 10% of my designs become a real product, it’s hard but if you love what you do it doesn´t care.
Parallel to my design practice I work as full time teacher at the Universidad de Nariño Design Department, the state university in my hometown. This activity is a total feedback for me, I enjoy it a lot and try every day to encourage student to see design in a different way, to enjoy designing.
