Palmerston North, New Zealand
A multi-disciplinary creative, I relish the challenge of leading diverse teams to meet creative challenges, whether they be in print, 3D, motion graphics, or software development - or a fusion of all of those disciplines. My visual and written work has been featured in and referenced by the Wall Street Journal, Wired, Design Week, Monotype, Brand Perfect, and the Spanish Federation of Orthopaedics journal. I've been employed as a design consultant at Soluis, one of the UK's leading design visualisation studios. With a global client base including major name construction and architecture practices to oil,gas and civic management consultancies, Soluis provides astounding visuals, animation and bespoke software for iOS devices. I work between teams to make sure that we're offering our absolute best to each and every one of our clients. While lecturing at UCOL in New Zealand's most innovative design degree department, I equipped students with the skills they needed to thrive in the marketplace. Those skills ranged from vector illustration and print output preparation, to ePub creation, use of the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, and creation of engaging motion graphics. I also strongly encouraged thorough research into current practice, and to adopt a "what would the client think of this?" mindset. At Marshall Creative Agency, also in NZ, I provided freelance copywriting for a variety of web, mobile app, and print projects. SEO and market aware, I'm an enthusiastic and insightful writer with quick turnaround and an excellent client mediation skill set. I write for Brand Perfect on technology, its role in society, and how we use it - to live, to create, and to learn. You can see my contributions at www.brandperfect.org, and on www.wired.co.uk.
UCOL - an incredibly enjoyable, fulfilling, and supportive environment. While there, I teach classes in design production, digital media creation, and typography including ePub and research toward Adobe DPS creation for iPad, as well as data journalism and creative business education. I have strong interests in research and the development of multi-disciplinary design education including manufacturing methods, prototyping, photography, animation and product visualisation.
Soluis is one of the UK’s largest, most accomplished and best respected CGI studios.
We were founded in the year 2000, and have since established an environment of continual growth, innovation and evolution from our young, dynamic and talented studio in Glasgow.
We primarily work with architects, contractors, private and public sector developers, design agencies and interior designers – though we love working with anyone, anywhere, involved in anything that can make use of our services.
Our founding Directors have been delivering exceptional CGI visuals for nearly 20 years, and have created a team around them that has been bred from this enormous experience. At Soluis you work with the artist who is producing your imagery from start to finish, ensuring the closest possible lines of communication. Our high service levels consistently surpass the expectations of our clients, whose repeat business tells us that the way we work is the right way for them.
All of our clients benefit from the studio’s in-depth understanding of architecture, construction and the medium of architectural visualisation, and as a result clients enjoy real and valuable results enabling them to secure contracts, win competitions, achieve planning permission and enhance marketing coverage of their projects.
I was delighted to be asked to mentor a student currently studying at the University of Stirling. My initial involvement was based around guiding career investigation and advising on the pursuit of opportunities, experience, and useful information. I very much enjoyed being able to offer occasional help and advice to someone currently attending Stirling, both by phone and email.
I helped clients across a range of industries to create rich, compelling content for their online, written and visual communication. I also provide advice and strategy for social media and technology integration.
Just completed a postgraduate degree in Digital Sustainable Engineering. The course focuses on 3D engineering design, both conceptual and technical, and on design process and management.
I teach members of the public and industry professionals from a variety of backgrounds how to get the very best from their Apple software and hardware. I'm a qualified Final Cut Pro video editor and also hold teaching qualifications in Aperture and all of the iLife and iWork applications. I also teach Photoshop and photography technique.
Dissertation title "A climatically controlled transport device for pets".
I was selected to attend a fully funded exchange/scholarship year at WSU while studying at Stirling University. I continue to count it as perhaps the most significant formative experience I have had to date outside of military service.
