In the early months of 2007, Navistar was in discussions with Caterpillar to assist them with developing a new line of CAT products to broaden their vehicle portfolio. I was selected to be part of a small cross functional team to explore this venture with CAT and their ID group. This small team spent months exploring the business, timing, cost and manufacturing aspects of starting a new line of vehicles. My role was to supply the eventual Joint Venture with full Industrial Design support. Navistar became the private label design, engineering, and manufacturing organization for these new CAT products. I worked closely with the CAT Design team to assure that the CAT Brand DNA was maintained and that the design resources were in place to accommodate CAT’s aggressive timeline and quality expectations. Designers, Clay and Digital Sculptors, Graphic Designers, and Color and Trim Designers were all deployed from my team to accomplish the award winning design you see here.
