In 2006, a new global JV was established with Mahindra Corporation in India. The MNAL (Mahindra Navistar Automotive Limited) JV would utilize designers and engineers from both India and the US and would develop together a Global Truck Platform that could be used domestically in India as well as in the US and rest of the world. My responsibility in the JV was to over-see all Industrial Design, Clay and Digital Sculpting, Graphic Design and Color and Trim Design. The US based team was in the throes of several other programs, we decided it would be best to build a design team in India. Working with Mahindra’s HR team to interview Designers and Sculptors in Pune India during the summer of 2006. We went to India and spent two weeks interviewing, hiring, meeting other members of the MNAL Team and doing driver research. The global design team spent time in the US and India learning from each other, building personal and professional bonds, and appreciating each other’s culture and customs.
