As my Bachelor’s thesis, the aim was to develop a low cost water bottle capable of purifying water with sunlight and no electronic components based on a patented solution by swedish company Solvatten AB. As sun beams permeates most materials, it was a continuos learning phase of reading about different materials and how they cope with UV radiation. Essentially, the final product consists of a transparent plastic window and a container body split in half. The window and body parts are made in the same material which makes it possible to weld them together using ultrasonic sound, which is a relatively lost cost operation to join parts together without using any glue. This is beneficial both from an economic but also environmental perspective since it can recycled much more efficiently.
