Plastic Bottle Upcycling for Haiti and Nicaragua

Currently Nicaragua and Haiti are both overwhelmed with plastic bottle waste. This Multidisciplinary Senior Design project aims to develop a system and several products that can effectively remove this waste to produce valuable products for the people living in these polluted regions. This would solve the pollution and help to combat economic struggles in these countries. This project combines Mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, and industrial design as we seek to transform plastic waste into new products. This project focuses on developing a human powered shredder to break down bottles into smaller pieces to then be melted and molded into new products. The shredder is currently in the design phase and will be constructed from February to May of 2017.
