Sony-Ericsson 3G concept - The concept was developed at the new Sony-Ericsson Design Center as part of my graduationproject. The goal was to create a synergy between humans and communicationtechnology by designing a more natural product. The most obvious difference with current mobile phones is the large touchscreen instead of a traditional keypad. Text and numbers are drawed with your thumb on a nine-dot matrix: it resembles childrens’ fingerpainting. The idea is easy because it is visual and resembles natural writing. Drawing a character is faster and more natural than searching for the letter on small keys. This visual writing principle can also be applied to non-Western alphabets, which is a mayor benefit for Asian people.
In terms of style, the design breaks with the rectangular boxes of current mobile phones. The concept was published in T3 magazine (March 2002) and FORM (June 2002).
