Reclaimed license plate

Every year, millions of vehicle are produced in the world. Then, license plates are required for each vehicle to be registered. According to the policy, license plates have to be replaced at least every five years, especially in my country, Indonesia. So, once it’s replaced the old one will go to waste. I feel those plates have another potential by turning them into something fresh.

Reclaimed license plate

I began this project by combining two re-use aluminium license plates into a geometic form. But i still keep the numerical sequence that embossed on those plates.
The shape has finally led me to create more functional thing which is a CD storage. It was actually based on my interest in music and CDs. This CD storage could contain about 10 CDs or more and also painted different color. So, it gives more value to the object.

Reclaimed license plate

I believe every designer has their own approaches. Whether intended for innovation, aesthetic, social design or eco-design. And nowadays, I think there’s a widespread use of recycled materials. There are many existing object that might have been thrown away or broken, transform into other new objects. I found such an interesting feeling with these re-use material, especially what I’m working on, which is license plates.
