EREHWON is a short animation made as completion requirement for a diploma from NID.

The story behind the visuals takes its cue from various folklore on ancestor worship, which is one of the oldest forms of the world's religious beliefs. In India, there is text about a ritual known as the Sattra, where one must go into a forest crawling on one's hands and knees, and wait 60 days and 60 nights for a sign, after which a sacrifice must be performed for a blessing from the spirits.

The animation is an attempt at shadow puppetry using software puppets and classical animation techniques. The visuals are inspired from folktales, russian films and modernist architecture.

This was a project involving both video and animation, commissioned by Symbio-health. The director is Priya Krishnaswamy.

The entire film is about 30 minutes long, with about 6 minutes of animation. I was responsible for conceptualising and storyboarding animation for the project, and also animating about 4 and a half minutes. For the rest I assembled a team of 2d and 3d animators, and was responsible for compositing their work into the final film.

Presented here is a compilation of some of the work done. Animation was used to illustrate clearly the theories talked about in the film, as well as to provide visuals where video would not have sufficed.

A portrait of the artist as diligent storyteller (but no money?).

Discovered this among some old files. The original file was too big, so I converted it : but the aspect ratio is probably wrong now...
