EREHWON is a short animation made as completion requirement for a diploma from NID.
The story behind the visuals takes its cue from various folklore on ancestor worship, which is one of the oldest forms of the world's religious beliefs. In India, there is text about a ritual known as the Sattra, where one must go into a forest crawling on one's hands and knees, and wait 60 days and 60 nights for a sign, after which a sacrifice must be performed for a blessing from the spirits.
The animation is an attempt at shadow puppetry using software puppets and classical animation techniques. The visuals are inspired from folktales, russian films and modernist architecture.
