My design process simultaneously considers marketing, psychology, aesthetics, and engineering. I am skilled at linking these fields in the design process, both quantitatively and qualitatively, and interested in applying my interdisciplinary methodology to sustainable design. My thesis research explores the impact of “constructed preferences” on product design. Email me at erinmacd at iastate dot edu.

Here is a brief discription of my research interests:
Effectively capturing consumer values, concerns and perceptions in product design methodologies, Understanding the role of consumers’ “pseudo-sacred values” in marketing and engineering models, Product design-focused consumer survey methodologies such as discrete choice conjoint and Kano analysis, Context effects in survey design, Decision heuristics in product design, Design for environment, Interdisciplinary design optimization
