Revamping the product catalog into something that would be engaging, combining elements of a “magazine style” storytelling to make a stronger impact on vendors and retailers. CREDITS > VIZ Media, LLC (2009) // Lead Designer: John Kim // Designer: Frances O. Liddell
I developed interstitial spreads which were a device to separate the offerings by season of release. These spreads were unique interpretations of the manga, relying on a single bright color overlaying white or black to make an instant “pop.” I also designed the page layout for the table of contents. VIZ Fall Catalog

VIZ Media is a publishing and entertainment company and leader in licensed manga and anime (Japanese animation and comic books). The marketing and sales team wished to revamp the catalog into something that would be engaging, combining elements of a “magazine style” storytelling to make a stronger impact on vendors and retailers.

I supported the design lead--providing feedback, brainstorming and concepts. I created the concepts for the table of contents and interstitial spreads. The purpose of the interstitial spreads was to serve as a visually powerful way to feature manga and to divide the catalog into release months. One of the earlier interstitial concepts, a tile of covers, served as inspiration for the catalog cover. The result is a publication showcasing the breadth and range of manga offerings from VIZ Media.
