Gerry Mayer III
Hi! I'm Gerry, and I'm a Designer, Maker, and Engineer. My whole life, I have been curious about how things are made and how we use objects and technology to interact with our world and each other. Raised by an Artist and an Engineer, I grew up feeding my creativity by building things and taking things apart, turning ideas into real working objects and I just can’t get enough! I have a passion for learning and I’m always working on projects and hobbies in my free time. I graduated from Villanova University in 2012 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and have been working full time in the aerospace industry ever since. In 2013, I discovered the field of Industrial Design to be a perfect match for my interests and skills, a combination of creativity, inventing, hands on prototyping, and technical understanding. While intensely self-studying and refining the skills I would need to work towards a career in Industrial Design, I started GMAY3 Design, an Industrial Design consulting company that I actively run in my mornings, nights, and weekends. Since starting GMAY3 Design, I’ve gained a ton of valuable Industrial Design work experience designing for clients such as GCW-Zero, Hooke Audio, and Microsoft.

I founded GMAY3 Design in 2013 as an Industrial Design brand and consulting company.
As a Product Designer, I work closely with the Founders of several companies helping them evolve their ideas into realized products. I provide 2D concept sketching and full 3D renderings of a product, exploring form, function, material, and color with my clients. I utilize model making and 3D printing to create prototypes to evaluate and refine functionality of products for mass manufacture.
I designed panel layouts, internal electronics, and mechanical enclosures for simulation test equipment supporting cockpit avionics, displays, and physical interfaces for Boeing 737, LMCO P-3, Delta MD88/MD90, and Pilatus PC-12 aircraft. I also worked on design documentation and supported in house production and system testing for MCDU, Cockpit Display and Control Panels, and Air Data Systems.
I worked on a DARPA contract for the research and development of a unique maple seed type drone prototype which could provide quick video surveillance to soldiers while in battle. I had several responsibilities such as soldering PCB components and 3D modelling the drone and its replaceable parts. I designed and built custom ruggedized packaging for delivery and live demonstration of the prototype product at the Marine Warfigher Lab. During the summer I also researched battery technology to reduce the drone's weight and analyzed RF communication interference problems between the drone and its base station.
I assisted with electronics testing for an aerial rail mounted camera system for live TV sports field coverage. I worked on PCB component pattern drawing, schematic drafting, and PCB routing /layout. I also updated obsolete components on existing PCB designs and drafted CAD layouts for camera operator control panel CNC machining based on button, joystick, and power and data interface dimensions.
