Group Creation Guidelines

Groups

Groups are here for you to connect and collaborate with other creative types - any Coroflot user can make, run or participate in a group...

Participating in a Group

Why do you join a group? - to hang with people of similar (or dis-similar!) tastes, interests, backgrounds - To share your work, get feedback or offer up some advice - To get up on what is going down.

Treat your groups like you would any shared space: with pride and care. Your contributions make a group what it is. Don't litter the place with repeat image postings, or irrelevant discussion topics. If you do, don't take offense when they get edited out or when, if you persist in behaving badly, you get the boot!

If a group has established a set of guidelines you'll need to abide by them as a member.

Making a Group

Groups can be made up of just a few people or many. Some sample ideas for fun groups: Alumni of XYZ - Greatest School EVAR, The So-and-So-Design-Icon Fan Club, Recovering Employees of ..., Spring Thesis Show, United Practioners of a Skill, All About a Niche, Our City's Designers Rock!, etc... If you make an interesting group they will come!

You can take an active role in growing your group as well - Wether you are the moderator or a member you can invite anyone at Coroflot to join while viewing their profile. Just click the button "Invite to Group." Practice patience while inviting new members, it will often take a while for someone to respond. Naturally, you can invite friends outside of Coroflot to join your group as well, but they'll need to set up accounts first (free of course!)

If you want to get publicity for a group project, or your school's program, or your local professional association you can set up a special group where only you and your colleagues can post work. We call this a Moderated Membership Group. It is a great way to collaborate too.

Joining a Moderated Membership Group

You can spot a Moderated Membership Group by its "Apply to Join" button. This means the group's moderator will have to approve you joining the group. If a group has membership requirements it will most likely state them in its description; look to see if you meet them before applying to a group. If you do apply, don't expect an immediate reply - if you haven't heard back in a few days try again.

If you get denied membership to some exclusive group don't take it personally - it ain't nothin' but a thang - go start your own group! But please don't call it the "the-group-I-got-denied-to-sux" group.

The Golden Rule of Happy Grouping

One of the greatest uses of groups is to get and give feedback on work. We all know the importance discussion and criticism play in good design, but it is essential to remember while giving feedback to respect the work behind the work. Think about your all too frequent run-ins with deadlines... Kinked neck, burned retinas, an overall sense of extra-crispiness, and in the end, in your hand, a single file. So much given to produce something that can be swallowed in a gulp by the eye. So do as you'd like to be done to - look twice, type once, include smileys.
