Dettol Cleaning Device

To explore how Reckitt Benckiser can improve the sustainability credentials of Hard Surface Cleaning (Kitchens, Bathrooms, Toilets etc.) products, considering the brand Dettol, specifically through impacting consumer behaviour.

The challenge was to develop a product that will allow people to carry out cleaning tasks in the specified area whilst minimising use of a commonly required resource such as heat, power, detergent or water.

I chose to minimise the use of chemicals for hard surface cleaning in Kitchens. The project lasted one week and the results were displayed on two presentation boards.

Sustainability analysis was key and to do this we used Social Issue cards and the Design Abacus to focus on key social and environmental issues with the aim to improve them in the new design.

This work was shortlisted in the top 20, of about 150 that took part in the challenge. Reckitt Benckiser were "very impressed with a number of others 'who are clearly talented designers'".
