Hercules’s vision to expand show craftsmanship, where no one had ventured to create before, was a collaborative
project with businessman Achilles Kazantzidis, striving to combine the modern-day partying and theatre experience
in a self-enclosed concept. The idea can seem quite common today, but back in those days it was truly challenging.
A sui generis rule-breaking venue that has been synonymous with the eighties, where threw together everyone at social hierarchy class who came to enjoy in the atmospheric vicinity directly affected by the harbor it is situated on. As artistic director, showman and host, Hercules always continues to uphold the core tenet – to “Living Artistically”. It is at this time that it had struck a balance between what one might call nightclub disco and theatrical stage, more than an alternative, but an experience attraction which came to the attention of the "crème de la crème" personalities and illustrious from
the 80's and 90's, intellectuals, actors, designers, dignitaries, artists. Many have made several appearances on stage. Captured the romance era of cabaret, vaudeville and café-théâtre featuring a variety of shows, theatrical, musical and live performance arts, piano music by Liza Alexiadou and Akis Gounaris, DJ, stand-up comedy, one-act show, jazz concerts. The follow-up to Banal, beyond its generation was next the phenomenally morphological Maroko Baroque club featured a retractable show stage allowing dancing performances, and Maroko Summer open-air club upon a building roof terrace at Evosmos in the western suburbs, bringing a slice of old-world oriental scenery and fatefully tied itself to heritage of Banal, accompanied by advertising campaigns of Periklis Pilides and Hercules Doukas as a decorator and artistic director that time had left his cool-as-sunrise hallmark on Thessaloniki. In late 2014, Hercules announced that he was writing a memoir book about his early days with the Banal club and its history.
