Raised barefoot in the sunshine state of Hawai’i, James Keoni Arizumi left the islands in the pursuit of a dream that was yet to unfold. It was in California where he graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture that he found his calling in design. Architecture created the foundation for his thought process, aesthetics, and creative approach to design. His first year out of college, he began work on one of the biggest projects in the city, The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles. From there Arizumi went on to work as a Visual Display Designer at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills where he discovered his passion for product design, inspiring him to move across the country to NYC to earn his Masters in Industrial Design. Arizumi started in footwear design at Clae and Lakai where he had the opportunity to work with true legends in the Skateboarding industry. Currently he is the Design Director at Nike SB, where he has been for almost a decade helping create the magic that has defined a generation. During his early years he designed projects like the Paul Rodrigez 2, Zoom Tre AD, and the iconic Stefan Janoski. James Arizumi is a Skateboarder and a Surfer, rides motorcycles, lurks on fashion, and enjoys living life to the fullest with his beautiful Wife, dog, and cat. I am multidisciplinary designer with a life long passion for great design. Proven leadership, teamwork and innovation in design, creative direction, graphic design, and product production. As a highly detailed, focused, self motivating, quick learner, I am looking for a challenging career opportunity that will allow me to develop as a designer and grow as a person. In what would be considered a niche market coined the action sports business actually is responsible for defining and driving the youth culture of today. This is the world that I live in and where my area of experience lies. Bringing a fresh youthful vision to design and letting the athlete and the consumer be my voice.
