Job Description

The Department of Art, Art History and Design at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a graphic designer at the rank of Assistant Professional Specialist beginning fall 2013. This is a full-time, nine-month position. An Assistant Professional Specialist is a teaching and administrative position, renewable on a contract basis, with increasing rank possible. Salary and benefits are competitive.

Responsibilities include teaching typography courses (including motion components), an advanced undergraduate course in professional practice, and participation in a team-taught graduate seminar; advising graduate and undergraduate students; and contributing to department activities, including the support of student design groups, visiting speakers, and field trips. Additionally, this faculty member will oversee a newly-formed, on-campus student design firm. The Design Program at Notre Dame is part of an interdisciplinary Department of Art, Art History & Design in the College of Arts & Letters.

Candidate requirements include: Master of Fine Arts or equivalent advanced degree in graphic design/visual communications with a high level of competency in interactive and motion design and strong technical ability; demonstrated expertise with typography; excellent communication and problem-solving skills; competency with creative software applications for both print and interactive communications; industry experience strongly desirable; teaching experience beyond graduate assistant or TA preferred.
