Industrial Design Co-op
Job Description
Bose Design Center is seeking an Industrial Design Co-op for a 6-month engagement starting July 2013. The co-op will be part of the Advance Development group within the Design Center.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student designer to exist and work in the advanced space of product development. We primarily work on product concepts that may come into the market 3-5 years in the future. Exploration of new materials for industrial design is also a significant part of our team scope.
The ideal candidate will be one who is comfortable working in an ambiguous grey area of development. Often, little is defined, there are many possibilities to consider and it is critical to explore new ground. It is challenging in a great way.
A good advanced development designer is one who takes initiative and is good at engaging with other creative professionals in various forums and in various media. While we value technical skill (sketching, CAD, etc.) we favor creative thinking and brave designers who are developing a critical point of view.
The co-op will work with many experienced, passionate and technologically adept product creators, not just in the Design Center, but throughout the company, as we collaborate with almost all disciplines. Many tools will be at the designer’s disposal and the designer will have the freedom to work in the methods that are most effective.
The co-op will not be strictly limited to advanced development focus, as we often support the other design studios (home entertainment, noise reduction technology(headphones), automotive audio and new business ventures).
Typically, our ADID co-ops leave Bose with a new perspective on the design process and an enhanced set of skills that help them define the kind of designer they want to be.
MANDATORY ASPECTS:
- The applicant must be an undergrad or grad student who will return to school for at least one semester after the internship. We will not consider any applicant who has completed their degree. If you are done with school keep watching coroflot (wink, wink).
- A working proficiency in 3D CAD such as Solidworks, Rhino or NX.
- A working proficiency in other visualization tools such as Photoshop, Modo or Keyshot.
- You don’t need to draw like Da Vinci and model like Michelangelo but you need to able to clearly and rapidly visualize ideas through sketching, sketch models, and various hack and slash techniques.
